Changing industries and titles, Rahul Samant to become Delta’s CIO
Delta Air Lines has appointed Rahul Samant as its new senior vice president and CIO, replacing retiring CIO Theresa Wise. Previously, Samant served as American International Group’s chief digital officer (CDO). According to his Linkedin profile, Samant was AIG’s first CDO, responsible for driving a cohesive company-wide digital strategy. Prior to AIG, Samant has worked for 19 years at Bank of America where he most recently was head of global sourcing.
China-based Appliance maker Haier America has appointed Deanna Johnston as its first CIO, reporting to Kevin Dexter, Chief Operating Officer. Previously, she has served for 7 years as CIO of Belkin International where, in 2013, she managed the rapid integration of the Linksys business into Belkin's processes and systems after Belkin purchased Linksys from Cisco. Prior to Belkin, Johnston was vice president of IT for Ingram Micro North America.
Haier Group has recently sought to expand operations in the U.S. market, where it is mostly known as a manufacturer of appliances such as compact refrigerators and window air-conditioning units. It has recently announced a deal to acquire General Electric’s appliance unit for $5.4 billion.

Progressive Corporation has promoted Steve Broz to CIO, replacing Ray Voelker who retired after 30 years with the insurance company, including 15 as CIO. A 15-year veteran of Progressive, Broz has been a key member of Voelker's senior leadership team, responsible for the technology group's Enterprise Project Management Office.
EMC Corporation has appointed ML Krakauer as CIO. After joining EMC in 2008, she has served as executive vice president of business development for global enterprise services and as the head of global human resources. EMC is preparing to merge with Dell Inc., and will probably draw on Krakauer’s integration experience at Compaq Computer Corp., when it was acquired by then-Hewlett-Packard Co. in 2002. Krakauer replaces Vic Bhagat, who joined EMC as CIO in 2013, after 20 years in IT at General Electric.
IBEX Global Solutions, provider of contact center services and other business process outsourcing (BPO) solutions, has appointed Jim Ferrato as CIO, reporting to Bob Dechant, CEO. Previously, Ferrato led technology initiatives at iPacesetters, a customer acquisition company. He also served as the CIO at ACCENT Marketing and CIO at Protocol Global Solutions.
The governor of Alabama has appointed Joanne Hale, professor of management information systems at the University of Alabama, as Alabama’s new CIO, replacing Brunson White.In addition to her teaching duties at the university, Hale has led an IT solutions delivery organization, managing an annual IT project portfolio of 40-50 diverse projects for private and public organizational clients.
The Schwan Food Company has appointed Kathy Persian as senior vice president and CIO, reporting to Dimitrios Smyrnios, CEO. Previously, Persian served she served as senior vice president of business transformation and CIO at Sports Authority and CIO at SUPERVALU.
Scripps Health has appointed Andy Crowder as its new CIO and corporate senior vice president. Previoulsy, Crowder served as senior vice president and CIO at MaineHealth and CIO for Florida Hospital and Adventist Health System.
The new governor of Kentucky has promoted Jim Barnhart from deputy to acting commissioner of the Commonwealth Office of Technology.
UBS Financial has appointed Apurva Mehta as CTO, Head of Architecture.
