Northwestern Hires Express Scripts COO as CIO

Milwaukee-based life insurance company Northwestern Mutual has appointed Neal Sample as CIO. He will head the technology organization of the $28.5 billion company and be responsible for further developing its financial planning digital platforms. 

Sample comes to Northwestern Mutual from Express Scripts, where he worked as Chief Operating Officer and led all facets of operations, including information technology, pharmacies, call centers, and client services. Prior to that, he was President of Enterprise Growth at American Express, where he was responsible for all commercial and delivery aspects of a business unit and led large-scale legacy mainframe management and transformation. Earlier in his career, he led cutting-edge technology development and organizations at Yahoo! and eBay.

In other recent appointments and career moves:

Chicago-based CommonSpirit Health has appointed Suja Chandrasekaran to fill the newly created role of chief information and digital officer. She will lead the integration and modernization of technology systems to connect the 142 hospitals and more than 700 care sites of CommonSpirit Health, which was formed from the merger of Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health in February. Before joining the $29 billion nonprofit Catholic health system operating in 21 states, she held the same title at Kimberly-Clark.

Genesys has appointed Pranab Sinha as senior vice president and CIO. He will lead the multi-channel customer experience and contact center solutions company’s global IT organization, spearheading a strategy to drive the internal deployment of innovative technologies and programs to enable operational efficiencies and customer and employee satisfaction. Prior to joining Genesys, Sinha was the CIO at MACOM Technology Solutions Holdings, Inc. and previously served as vice president, Enterprise IT, for Seagate Technology.

Learning company Pearson has appointed Satish Menon its senior vice president and CTO, Product Platforms. Reporting to Albert Hitchcock, COO and CTO, Menon will be responsible for product platform development, content & experience development and engineering. Most recently he was responsible for product platform technology at Shutterfly, and he previously worked at the tech incubator UV Labs, and at Apollo Education.

General Dynamics Information Technology has appointed Kristine Grinnell to Global CIO and vice president for supply chain. Reporting to President Amy Gilliland, Grinnell leads the company’s information technology strategic plan in the areas of enterprise, business application, data centers, wide-area networks and customer service. She also oversees supply chain management, including direct and indirect procurement and sourcing.

Becton Dickinson has appointed Jerry Flasz as executive vice president and CIO.

Pizza Hut has appointed Doug Cook as CIO.

Perspecta has appointed Christie Nader as CIO.
