A Millennial CIO for a New Generation of Customers and Employees

SAP has promoted 31-year-old Thomas Saueressig to the position of CIO, reporting to the company’s new COO, 35-year-old Christian Klein. Saueressig joined SAP as a full-time employee in 2007 and was previously global head of IT services. He is the youngest CIO at a German DAX company and SAP told CIO Journal that “having a Millennial CIO will help it better move forward to serve a new generation of customers.”

Also serve and lead a new generation of employees. Straight Talk Featured Blogger David Chou write in “Why Should a Senior Executive Start Using Snapchat?”:

We are now at a tipping point where millennials will make up fifty percent of the workforce by 2020. The leadership style to manage and help them grow their careers is completely different than what we have experienced before.

Saueressig is replacing Helen Arnold who is moving to Palo Alto, California, to start a new business area for SAP, helping customers mine their data. Arnold wrote last year, “As innovators, CIOs have transitioned out of the traditional role of implementation managers. They are now advising how their organizations can use technology to unlock innovation, enable new types of engagement, and spark disruptive business models.”

In other recent appointments and career moves:

PepsiCo Inc. has appointed Jody Davids as senior vice president and global CIO, reporting to PepsiCo’s vice chairman and CFO Hugh Johnston. She replaces Robert Dixon, who retired after serving as CIO since 2007. Previously, Davids spent two years as CIO at Canadian fertilizer company Agrium Inc. and has also held CIO positions at Best Buy Co. and Cardinal Health Inc.

The United States Postal Service has promoted Kristin Seaver to the position of CIO and executive vice president, reporting to Postmaster General and CEO Megan J. Brennan. Seaver will lead the Postal Service’s efforts to drive innovation across enterprise analytics, business insights, mail intelligence, engineering systems, information security and infrastructure, and payment technology. Previously, she was vice president for area operations in the Capital Metro Area. Seaver is replacing Randy Miskanic, who was named acting CIO in April 2015. He will return to his former position as USPS’ chief information security officer and digital solutions vice president.

Financial services company USAA has appointed Jennifer Sepull as CIO and senior vice president. Previously, Sepull served as CIO at Kimberly-Clark and American Honda Motor Co. She replaces Greg Schwartz, who recently retired after more than 30 years at USAA.

Arby’s Restaurant Group has appointed Darla Morse as CIO, reporting to CEO Paul Brown. Previously, Morse was CIO at SeaWorld and held a variety of positions at Walt Disney World including being part of the initial team that developed Disney’s wristband.

Jay Vijayan, the CIO of Tesla Motors Inc. since January 2012, has left the automaker to create a startup in stealth mode. Tesla vice president of IT, Ganesh V. Iyer, is taking over Vijayan’s responsibilities as acting CIO, reporting to CEO Elon Musk.

Insurance firm Kemper Corporation has appointed Charles Brooks as senior vice president and CIO, reporting to President and CEO Joseph P. Lacher, Jr. Previously, Brooks was Global Operations Officer at ACE Group and a senior ITexecutive with Aetna and Travelers Personal Insurance.

WellCare Health Plans, Inc.  has appointed Darren Ghanayem as senior vice president and CIO, reporting to WellCare's CEO Ken Burdick. Previously, Ghanayem spent more than 15 years with Anthem, formerly WellPoint, Inc., where he led a variety of technology initiatives. Most recently, he served as vice president of business transformation.

Water utility Aqua America, Inc. has appointed Whitney Kellett as its new CIO, reporting to CAO Susan Haindl. Previously, Kellett was vice president of information technology at Atlas Energy Group, LLC, an $8 billion energy management company.

Kapsch TrafficCom AG, a provider of intelligent transportation systems, has promoted Japjeev Kohli to the position of CTO for the North American region, reporting to CTO Alexander Lewald. Before joining Kapsch, Kohli held senior technology roles at COM DEV Space Group.

Online legal marketplace Avvo, Inc. has appointed Kevin Goldsmith as CTO.

Apparel wholesaler LuLaRoe has appointed Guillermo Lopez as CTO.

A.O. Smith Corp. has appointed Peter Martineau as senior vice present and CIO.

Bankwell has promoted John Adams to the position of senior vice president and CIO. 

Inventurus Knowledge Solutions Health has appointed Paul Contino as CTO.

Artificial intelligence startup Neurensic has appointed Dr. Cliff Click as CTO.

Experian has promoted Emad Georgy to the position of CTO.
