March Appointments and Career Moves

Here are a few of the key developments in the careers of senior technology executives in March 2015:

The Seattle Police Department has appointed Greg Russell, who led corporate applications, enterprise data warehouse and IT at Amazon, as its new CIO. There, he will find new ways to track and potentially predict crime using analytics, manage IT and help implement the department’s body camera project, the department said. In a Q&A on the website SPD Blotter, Russell said: “What’s important for me to understand is what we can and cannot share based on privacy. I don’t quite understand that yet.”

Automatic Data Processing Inc. has promoted Stuart Sackman to the role of corporate vice president of global product and technology. Reporting to ADP President and CEO Carlos Rodriguez, he replaces former CIO Mike Capone, who left the company for the position of Chief Operating Officer at Medidata Solutions, provider of a cloud platform to cloud platform aiming to lower the cost and risk of clinical trials and speed new treatments to market.

Dunkin’ Brands Group Inc. has promoted CIO Jack Clare to the newly created title of chief information and strategy officer. Along with leading the company’s IT department, Clare will now oversee the company’s long-term strategic planning process. He will also join the firm’s Leadership Team, a combination of line-of-business and functional leaders who directly advise the CEO.

Michael Gorriz, CIO at Mercedes-maker Daimler AG, has been appointed group CIO at Standard Chartered PLC, the emerging market-focused bank. Based in Singapore, he will report to newly appointed CEO Bill Winters.

Supply chain software maker SPS Commerce Inc. has hired former Target Corp. CIO Beth Jacob, who resigned from the retailer last year after a major data breach. In the newly created role of chief customer success officer, Jacob will define and manage customer strategy for all of the company’s products.

Home Depot Inc., after suffering a massive data breach last year, has hired Jamil Farshchi as its first chief information security officer. Farshchi will manage information security, data protection and vulnerability management, reporting to CIO Matt Carey.

Margot Sharapova has been appoitned as CIO by OptumRx, a division of UnitedHealth Group. Prior to joining OptumRx, Sharapova was VP & CIO, Americas with AECOM as well as CIO, Medical Diagnostics with GE Healthcare.
