Now that the consensus is growing that for the planet’s survival, we have to stop burning fossil fuels, companies are investing more in “green-tech”, companies that produce or deliver clean, sustainable energy, . Here are five of the greenest shoots:

NextEra Energy Resources is the world's largest producer of solar and wind renewable energy. It is also the biggest infrastructure capital investor of all U.S. energy firms. The company also operates nuclear power plants in New Hampshire, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

This Spanish firm is a pioneer in wind-power generation. Gamesa was one of the first firms to make a business out of generating electric power with wind and today operates some of the world's largest wind farms. Now active in 90 countries, Siemens Gamesa’s wind business includes onshore and offshore wind firms.

GE Renewable is one of the world's largest suppliers of wind turbines and provider of onshore and offshore turbine technical support. Moreover, GE is also one of the main providers of hydro turbine generators. About one in four of the world’s hydropower kilowatts is generated by a GE turbine.

Cypress Creek Renewables is the American leader in local solar energy. It utilizes a data-driven methodology for finding and purchasing underutilized land on which it installs solar farms able to produce anywhere from 2 - 20 MW. Cypress sells this renewable energy to local communities, typically at prices lower than fossil fuels, a method that guarantees universal access to clean energy at a reasonable cost.

Invenergy has projects in North America and Europe that develop, build, own, and manage power generation and storage. Its portfolio includes facilities fuelled by wind, solar energy, and natural gas. It is one of the six largest holders of wind turbines in the US and the biggest independent wind-power generator in North America.
