Coca-Cola Names a New CIO, Experienced in Leading Change

The Coca-Cola Company has promoted Barry Simpson, from head of Global Business Unit IT Services to CIO, overseeing the company’s global information technology strategy, services and operations and reporting to James Quincey, President and Chief Operating Officer. Before joining Coca-Cola in 2008, Simpson has served in various IT leadership roles for Colgate-Palmolive based in Australia, Malaysia and the United States.

In a company’s statement, COO Quincey said: “Given the significant amount of change under way as we transform our business for the future, it’s important that we have an IT function positioned to protect our information technology and accelerate our growth around the world. Barry’s proven experience leading change will ensure the IT function is a partner in driving innovation, simplification and efficiency to create value for our customers and consumers, and, importantly, create a better experience for our employees.”

Executive recruiter and consulting firm Korn/Ferry International has identified four types of CIO leadership profiles: commercial—business first, driven by collaboration (44% of CIOs); transformational—detailed-oriented, curious, and driven by challenge (24%); innovative—visionary, pushes boundaries, and sees technology as an enabler (21%); and tech—technically minded, thrives in complex IT environments, dedicated, and achievement oriented (11% percent).

Neiman Marcus has promoted Sarah Miller to the position of senior vice president and CIO, reporting to CEO Karen Katz. Before joining Neiman Marcus in 2013, Miller has been director of IT at Lowe’s Companies Inc., a senior IT manager at Nash Finch Co.  and a systems software engineer with IBM.

American Eagle Outfitters Inc. has appointed Colin Bodell as its first CTO, reporting to Chief Operating Officer Michael Rempell. Previously, Bodell was CTO at Time Inc., after spending 8 years with Amazon.

NetApp Inc. has appointed Bill Miller as its new CIO, reporting to Ron Pasek, executive vice president and CFO. Previously, Miller was CIO with Broadcom Ltd., established Sabal Systems, a high-tech consultancy focused on cyber security, IT industry strategic product positions, billing, and recovery systems, and CIO at Harris Corporation.

Dell Inc. has appointed Bask Iyer as interim CIO, replacing ML Krakauer who is taking a temporary leave of absence. Iyer will continue to serve as CIO and IoT manager at VMware Inc., which is a unit of Dell Inc. Previously, Iyer held CIO posts at Honeywell and Juniper Networks.

Thomson Reuters Corp. has appointed Tim McKnight as chief information security officer (CISO), reporting to EVP and Chief Transformation Officer Neil Masterson. Previously, McKnight held senior IT security roles at General Electric, Fidelity Investments, Northrop Grumman, BAE Systems and Cisco Systems and has served as a special agent with the FBI. Nasrin Rezai, currently CISO for GE Capital and head of governance and technology risk for GE, has been named as McKnight’s replacement.

Level 3 Communications has promoted Andrew Dugan to the position of CTO. Prior to joining Level 3 in 1998, Dugan worked at MCI Worldcom and AT&T Bell Laboratories.

Level 3 Communications has promoted Atilla Tinic to the position of CIO. Prior to joining Level 3 in 2014, Tinic served in leadership roles with tw telecom, American Management Systems, Saville Systems,

Bell Canada and Bell Sygma.

EquiLend Holdings LLC, a securities lending platform, has appointed Ken DeGiglio as its first CIO, reporting to CEO Brian Lamb. Previously, DeGiglio was managing director and head of application development at TD Ameritrade, and has worked for Morgan Stanley, Robertson Stephens and J.P. Morgan and was a founder of Renaissance Trading Technologies.

Prince George's County Public Schools has promoted Youssef Antar to CIO.

Premise Health has promoted Haden McWhorter to CIO.

University of California – Riverside has appointed Danna Gianforte as CIO.
