High Demand for Cybersecurity Professionals
The rise in remote work led to an increased demand for cybersecurity professionals in June, according to a joint report on the cybersecurity job market by Cybervista and the International Consortium of Minority Cybersecurity Professionals. Based on an analysis of job listings on LinkedIn, they found that job openings bounced back in May, with 348,082 open positions in June 2020 compared to 244,140 in May.
According to the report, the rebound was most visible in healthcare and financial services sector, followed by information technology and services, retail, and computer software. Demand wasn’t limited to cybersecurity roles, but job opening rose for a variety of IT roles that require security expertise, they noted.
As demand continues to be high for security skills, the job market has expanded to major tech hubs, such as San Francisco, New York, and Chicago. Several other cities, such as Denver, Phoenix and Austin saw a high number of job openings in cities.

WarnerMedia has appointed Richard Tom as CTO and Jeremy Legg, WarnerMedia’s previous CTO, has joined AT&T Communications as EVP and CTO reporting to Jeff McElfresh, CEO of AT&T Communications. Tom, who will report to Warner Media’s CEO Jason Killer, was previously CTO of Hulu. He will now lead WarnerMedia’s technology and operations organization including technology strategy, platform development and operations as well as shared services across WarnerMedia. This includes the company’s data strategy, content delivery systems, master control operations, broadcast engineering and the technology platform for its new streaming service, HBO Max, among other areas.
Silicon Valley Bank has appointed Mark Rohrwasser as CIO. Previously, he was the International CIO for Equifax, where he was responsible for strategizing and establishing standardized platforms across the company’s 23 global locations. He held a variety of executive roles at Equifax, including stepping in as interim Global CIO following the 2017 data breach and shepherding the organization through a comprehensive cyber security overhaul. Before Equifax, he worked as Vice President at PayPal, leading strategy and development of core payments, pricing, risk and compliance platforms. In addition, he led development of a new credit platform with Apple and transformed the company’s global data centers.
New York-based Mount Sinai Health System has promoted Kristin Myers, MPH, as Executive Vice President, CIO, and Dean for Information Technology. Previously, she worked as Senior Vice President for Technology. In her new role, she will steer IT transformation efforts to align and support Health System strategy. Her main objectives will be to drive agility in the department to support the Health System’s mission of clinical care, research, and education; to optimize the department’s operations; and to enable the Mount Sinai Health System for digital change.
Ms. Myers joined Mount Sinai as a Director of IT in 2004 and before that, she worked at Cap Gemini, Ernst and Young, and the Cerner Corporation in Australia.
Gas and convenience store chain Casey’s General Stores has appointed Adrian Butler as CIO. In the newly created role, Butler will lead all information technology strategy, innovation, modernization and delivery at Casey's. He will report to CEO Darren Rebelez. Most recently, Butler was senior vice president and CIO at Dine Brands Global, parent company of IHOP and Applebee’s. Before that, he spent four years at Target Corp. in various roles, including vice president of business solutions security, senior director of technology services and director of strategy, planning, architecture, security and compliance.
Ygrene Energy Fund, a provider of residential, commercial and multifamily property-assessed clean energy financing, has appointed Shawn Harrs as CIO. Harrs joins Ygrene with more than 20-years of experience leading enterprise-wide information systems and technology programs. Previously, Harrs served in executive roles at the Walt Disney Company, NBC/Universal, and Lennar Corporation.
