4 Use-Cases of AI Deployed Against the Pandemic

Advanced technologies like artificial intelligence have proven critical in our battle against the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some use-case scenarios where companies have utilized the power of AI to protect and save the lives of people and organizations.

A key step to combating the spread of a contagion is ensuring that the public is informed and aware of precautions and dangers. However, managing the volume of these queries isn’t easy for human agents. IBM has developed a robotic AI assistant – Watson Citizens Assistant –, to help governments provide their people with reliable details.

Researchers at the IIT-Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia have built sensor suits which can track human body parameters and warn users when body temperatures reach 37.5 degrees Celsius. Bracelets and rings integrated with AI systems are used in China, which track vital signs, such as temperatures, heart rate and blood pressures in a constant manner.

South Korea has implemented aggressive contact tracking tools that provide real-time data on vehicles and mobile phones, as well as detailed schedules of people's journeys through the use of security camera footage, face reconnaissance technology and GPS records. South Korea provides text warnings on new COVID-19 cases in the area and it is advising people who may have been in contact with infectious individuals to return to the monitoring facilities.
