Your first day as CTO will define the course of your journey with the company and while you will be looking to make the right impact, there are certain things you will need to do in order to carve out your position within the company.
From stakeholders and shareholders to administrative and support staff, it is important to get to know the team you will be working with. Coordinating closely with them to build a good working relationship begins on your first day. Not only do you want to start off on the right foot, establishing a steady foothold begins with creating the right atmosphere and building the right framework for the organization’s success.
Make sure to do research on the small details before you get in to work. Knowing the key people, department heads, projects, and quarterly concerns allows you to hit the ground running. Being adequately prepared before you start your day goes a long way in setting the tone for the rest of the day. Communication is key and starting day one with that philosophy can do wonders. CTOs need to gain data on the ground realities of not only their own departments but also allied teams. The best thing you could do on your first day is to listen and understand.
